NEET UG 2025 Guide: Exam Pattern, Eligibility & Preparation Tips

Introduction

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the national-level medical entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other medical courses. The 2025 NEET exam reverts to the pre‑COVID question format with a single set of 180 compulsory questions. NEET 2025 will be conducted offline in the first week of May 2025.

Exam Pattern

According to NTA’s updated pattern, NEET 2025 will have 180 multiple‑choice questions. Physics and Chemistry each have 45 questions and Biology has 90 questions. The exam duration is approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes (expected 2:00–5:20 pm). Each question carries 4 marks; a wrong answer incurs a 1‑mark penalty.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have completed or be appearing in 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English.
  • Minimum age is 17 years as of 31 December 2025.
  • There is no upper age limit (as per current NMC guidelines).
  • Candidates must secure minimum aggregate marks in PCB (general: 50%, SC/ST/OBC: 40%).

Preparation Tips

  • Master NCERT textbooks: Build strong conceptual understanding in Biology, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Practice previous papers: Solve past NEET question papers to understand question trends.
  • Take mock tests: Simulate exam conditions with mock tests to improve speed and accuracy.
